Hi! I’m Francesca, a self-taught visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia. I create semi-abstract ethereal worlds inhabited by detailed animals and natural elements, alongside fantasy-inspired worlds brought to life from beloved works of literature. I picked up a paintbrush and palette knife after my daughter was born in 2023 and started exploring what I could create with some basic paints and old canvases.

I quickly discovered a love for creating whimsical worlds for my daughter, who took an instant curiosity to my paintings. She loved spotting the animals within them (some more hidden than others) and I could tell these worlds were creating stories for her.

I build layered landscapes through texture and light before adding the detailed animals and natural elements you see emerge within them. I like to think of the animals as guardians of the worlds I paint them into. I’m especially drawn to metallic paints and gold leaf to emphasise the dreamy, luminous quality of my work.

Themes of motherhood, connection to nature, and storytelling are woven through every piece. My hope is to create enchanting artwork that invites you into a world that feels not only beautiful, but otherworldly.
